COTV – HbbTV & HTML5 enhanced Community TV

Description: Following a successful initial implementation of the COTV environment during the 2008 – 2010 period, a 15 months extension of the COTV project has been awarded. This extension will enable the COTV environment to comply with the recently emerged HbbTV / CE-HTML / HTML5 market driven standards, as well as to cope with the strategic evolution of the broadcasters needs based on the rich feedback received during the original project pilot phase.

DENISE: Demonstrator Emergency aNd Interactive S-band sErvices

Description: The DENISE project aims at designing and demonstrating, both via laboratory tests and field trials using W2A satellite, a suitable S-band interactive system capable of efficiently using the available bandwidth (15 MHz in both uplink and downlink for each of the two licensed European S-band operators).
 
Development and Qualification of an Advanced Pilot Tone Injection Unit (PTIU) and L-Band Test Interface Unit (LTIU) for Next Generation Processed Payloads on Geo-Mobile Communications Satellites

Description: The first targeted market opportunity for the PTIU and LTIU products is the Inmarsat XL payload currently being developed by EADS Astrium UK, which is to be embarked on the first European Alphabus platform. COM DEV has provided similar products for the Inmarsat 4 series of satellites, however these products must now be redesigned to meet the requirements of the new integrated digital processors and the new Alphabus platform interfaces.

Development of an Antenna Control Unit

Description: The HITEC Antenna Control Unit (ACU) project aims at developing a Step Track and a Monopulse capable ACU version, based on HITEC’s existing Program Track ACU. The ACU provides the user interface in a Ground Station antenna by communicating with the antenna control system and calculating the correct aiming of the antenna, based on different types of information (e.g. TLE, signal strength).
 
Development of Diagnostic Tool – DIATOOL

Description: DIATOOL will be a stand-alone commercial program performing advanced electromagnetic processing of measured antenna data. It will read the measured field and compute the extreme near-field or the currents on the antenna surface, without the fundamental constraints of the traditional measurement systems.
 
DVB-RCS2 Support in SatLink System

Efficient Automation of Satellite Operations (EASO)

Description: SPELL is a free, open source software package whose purpose is to automate the execution of satellite procedures. This project aims to create the procedures and the PIL2SPELL software necessary to extend the use of SPELL to SES’ satellites fleet.
 
EuroSMG

Description: The EuroSMG project consists of the design, production, testing and qualification of a European ITAR-free Stepper Motor Gearbox (SMG) to meet the requirements of a Solar Array Drive Mechanism (SADM) for the GEO Telecom Satellite market.
 
Generic Flexible Payload

Description: This project will design the next generation of flexible payloads. The overall payload architecture design will enable three key types of hardware to be produced to EQM level. Two types of the equipment are new, the third takes advantage of the on-ongoing MMHT programme.
 
Generic Test Interface System - GTIS

Description: The primary objective of the GTIS is to provide a means to test next generation complex multi-spot beam payloads. The ever increasing numbers of uplink and downlinks requires greater interfaces and the GTIS looks to provide a non-flight interface which will efficiently test these complex architectures and reduce testing times.
 
GMP-T Programme: Development of a cost efficient power system

Description: The objective of the ARTES 3-4 development is to design, manufacture and qualify an Engineering Qualification Model (EQM) of SSTL GMP-T power subsystem. High Performance C-/Ka-Band Coaxial Circulators

Description: The input multiplexer and the low power circulators are crucial components in a satellite communication payload. In modern multimedia satellites the complexity of the payload is increased by adding more and more signal processing features to the simple amplification, and the role of the input multiplexer therefore becomes even more pronounced. The project focuses on C- and Ka-band circulators and isolators.

Integration and Trial of an Ad-hoc Terrestrial Component into Global Satellite Communications Systems

Description: The overall objective of the proposed work is to develop an ad-hoc radio network product which is integrated into a satellite system for the purpose of emergency service use, disaster recovery and Government security applications. It can also be used for commercial application in mineral extraction and oil and gas industries to improve safety, efficiency and to aid the rescue of personnel following incidents and accidents.
 
J-ORTIGIA: S-band Satellite Broadcasting Experimentation Campaign through NICT ETS-VIII satellite

Description: One of the key objectives of the J-ORTIGIA project was to evolve the receiver setup developed in the ORTIGIA framework in terms of performance, RF tuning, and alignment with the DVB-SH standard. Phase 1 encompasses a series of preliminary analysis and Phase 2 the integration of handheld mock-up and vehicular terminals.

Multiple Feeds per Beam Feed System

Description: The proposed feed system aims to create a four colour multi spot beam Ka-band scenario using only one reflector to transmit and one to receive. REACT: Resource for Emergency Services to Access Command and control data using satellite and hybrid Technologies

Description: The REACT project proposes to address the limitation of the current dependence on mobile technology by developing a hybrid solution for emergency services that intelligently combines the usage of mobile and satellite communication for the transmission of information. The system will be designed for use not only in rural areas where standard mobile communication may be limited or unavailable but also during a major crisis when standard networks are overloaded.

Road Information System for Next-Generation Cars - RISING

Description: This project aims to contribute to the increase of road safety by providing localised and realtime Traffic and Travel Information to vehicle drivers. The project goal is to develop and demonstrate a nonproprietary system and language-independent platform for aggregating, provisioning, distribution and delivery of Traffic and Travel Information (TTI) content to vehicle drivers. The TTI Content is provisioned into the system and then it is broadcast through satellite communication to the hotspots installed along the road.
 
SatElections CCN#3: Open eTraining Network for the Millennium Development Goals

SC1000 Field Terminal

Description: The SC1000 Field Terminal project has the objective to improve the SDS-Mk2 satellite based narrowband data services for mobile and static applications. A new terminal is built with lower power consumption, remote configuration and monitoring, L- and S-band support and extra features. The base station and over the air protocol are redesigned to support the new SC1000 terminal.
 
SENSIBLE: Satellite Enhanced Network System for flexIBLE bandwidth management

Description: SENSIBLE (Satellite Enhanced Network System for flexIBLE bandwidth management) is a project aimed at the creation of a system to optimise the satellite bandwidth usage and, at the same time, to guarantee user's critical services such as VOIP, tele-conference, GSM, etc. The core of the system is the detection of the users’ active services and the dynamic bandwidth allocation to the terminals included in the same administrative domain.

Description: This project seeks to achieve two general goals. Firstly, to demonstrate the simplification for standard fixed satellite installations, resulting in cost savings for an installer company and ultimately in a self-aligning antenna system fit for self-installation by the end user. Secondly, to remove cost barriers for a wide range of applications by implementing a low-cost, vendor-independent and self-aligning antenna system.
